Milpitas
Milpitas is a small city at the northernmost point of Santa Clara County. It’s just north of San Jose’s Berryessa neighborhood and south of Fremont, and has freeway access points to reach most Bay Area cities including San Francisco and Oakland.
Since opposing annexation from neighboring San Jose in 1961, Milpitas has maintained its independence by creating a community great for families and businesses alike. Milpitas is a Silicon Valley city with technology companies existing alongside both big-name retailers and mom-and-pop shops. This provides locals and commuters plenty of opportunity for employment, entertainment, dining and shopping.
Though this might seem quite industrial, Milpitas is still very much a residential city with a small town feel. And with the exception of country club real estate, homes for sale are relatively less expensive than what is typical of most Bay Area cities. The neighborhoods are quiet and safe, and minimal nightlife exists outside the Great Mall, a few bars, and restaurants in more commercial areas.
But, community centers, events and organized sports keep residents more than entertained. And with renovations to City Hall and a brand-new library, Milpitas is still developing. New and old shopping centers are conveniently located throughout the city and getting around is easy with VTA public transportation and nearby BART.
Milpitas is less favorably known to be malodorous at infrequent times of the year due to a county landfill. Commuters also cause a great deal of traffic during rush hour as crossovers and freeway changes occur through the city on main roads. But, as these are minor inconveniences, Milpitas families are still at an advantage in many other ways with fair to decent schools, growing neighborhoods, and easy access to the rest of the Bay.
