Alum Rock is located in East San Jose and is most commonly and simply referred to as the East Side. The area is made up some of the oldest homes in the city and is comprised of many poorer neighborhoods, with more costly homes for sale located in the northern Foothills. Alum Rock is often distinguished by its contrast in appearance, safety, and racial makeup to the rest of the city.
