Alviso
Who knew such a small town could pack so much adventure? Well, that’s just what you get when you come to Alviso. Alviso may very well be one of the least known regions of San Jose. It borders Milpitas and is still easy to miss. But even so, nature enthusiasts and small towners alike can’t get enough of Alviso’s unexpected history and great outdoors.
Alviso’s location in San Jose provides the only access point to the San Francisco Bay. And it was, for some time, a bustling port of transportation between the two cities. But since the community sits below sea level on marshland, it has been known to flood, although infrequently. This susceptibility, however, has greatly limited port activity and interrupted much of the former glory and construction Alviso was once known for. It also prohibits new properties from housing residents on the ground level.
But, what has sustained in Alviso is the rich, natural habitat and small-town feel. The area is ideal for hiking, biking, sightseeing and bird watching, which unify the outdoorsy community for much of the year. The Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge preserves and protects the environment, and the refreshed Marina County Park invites residents and hundreds of thousands of visitors annually for activities, picnics, dog walking and more.
Homes for sale in Alviso range from new construction to historic. Property can also be built on open land. And with home prices being some of the lowest in the entire Bay Area, settling into this quaint community is that much more attractive. The area offers extraordinary views of the Bay, miles of pathways and trails, and historical landmarks worth seeing. There are even intentions for continued development and improvement to Alviso in an effort to broaden the town’s appeal.
